Friends of St. Mark Remember that in the past lie the greatest lessons of the futureEnhance that which needs restoration; Search for justice, truth and new life in the Lord’ house Treasure all that has been given, and respect that which is to come: Own the responsibility we have to each other and to what is holy and good: Right any wrongs, and build upon what is good: Expand our reach into the community and the world. In 2005, a group of community residents from various local churches and organizations joined St. Mark trustees and members of the congregation to develop a program known as Restore, Repair, and Renew to support St. Mark A.M.E. Zion church. This group, known as the Friends of St. Mark, is committed to empowering the church to continue its existing services as well as expand its outreach to meet the future needs of the community. A part of Newtown for more than 189 years, the history of St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church is interlaced with the national church, events in American history, and in Bucks County lore. St. Mark has been a leading voice for social change and equality in the community. St. Mark’s mission is to heal the spirit, mind, and body through teaching, counseling and educational support. They have opened the church doors to provide practical life skills and assistance through a variety of programs available to the entire community: Youth outreach including youth enrichment, educational support, tutoring, career counseling, and scholarship programs;Restore, Repair, and Expand For nearly two centuries, the Church has survived the changing American cultural landscape of slavery, emancipation, civil war, two world wars, and the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Today, St. Mark is a multi-racial, multi-cultural church, proud of its heritage of fighting for social change and equality, while tending to the 21st Century needs of the community. To accomplish the Church’s mission and vision, it is important that the building be renovated to meet present and future needs of the congregation and community.
